We do not allow structures to be built over or near water mains, or pressurised sewers, due to the risks involved.

Can you build over a lateral drain?

If your property is connected to the public sewer, it’s likely that there will be a sewer pipe and/or lateral drain located within your property boundary and you will need permission to build over or close to it.

Our regulatory responsibility is to clear blockages in public sewers and transferred assets If the blockage is on our sewer network, we will clear it for you free of charge.

You cannot start work until we’ve consented to your application. However, please note that we won’t allow you to build over or near to any of our pressurised sewerage mains or water mains.
